Drilling Wells for Children And Families
Drilling wells seems like a cost that is for others to get involved, not you? We, in the USA, can go to almost any house, business, farm, airport, museums or even in parks beside the walk path and find a water fountain, sink and cup or glass, or even bottled water. Americans buy bottled water by the cases per week or per month for their own personal use. Drinkable water is just about everywhere.
But in 80% of the world to have safe water it needs to be boiled typically for a minimum of 20 minutes and then wait for it to be cooled. Even their city water needs the same process in many of the areas that have government or private water distributions. With your help in financing well drilling projects, you can help a village or maybe other close villages clean safe water to drink at only the cost of $1,200.00 per well. Other charities are already doing this in Africa and other continents. We have had a request to have a well drilled in a village about 17 kilometers from the Maranatha Foundation that is in Narasaropet, India. This well will make it so that the families of this village do not have to walk 5 kilometers to get safe water to cook and to drink. Well, that is not totally true in what that statement says. We have to also add that they need to go to get water for washing hands, taking a bath, and cleaning up after eating. How often are they able to do this now? Not very often. How hard is it for them to do this and how long out of a day do they spend walking with a gallon or more of water weighing a little more than 8.34 lbs per gallon? The doctors say we should drink at least 3 qts. to 1 gallon of water per day per person. So to live by our standards of care for a family of 4, that is 3 to 4 gallons they carry per day for just drinking. Then you add for cooking and then something for washing the dishes, pot & pans, and other things, and do not forget bathing. As you see, living about 4 miles from the water source for this first village we want to help, will cause social changes because the person or persons going for water will be at home for longer periods of time and doing other things, as it will only be a few minutes to and from the new well that will be located next to a church just minutes away.
