How Do They Become a Street Kid?
How does a Street Child become a Street Child?
It does not take very long to do an internet search. All you have to type into your GoodSearch tool bar is "Indonesian Street Children" or "India Street Children" and in about the time it takes you to blink you have 1,000's of stories or if you do an image search, be prepared for a possible emotional episode.
It takes at least 20 minutes of boiling water to process into drinking water. Then you need to wait for it to cool enough to drink. But if the fire is not hot enough and it barely bubbles there is a disease problem. If you do not wait long enough or it does not fully purify, sickness begins and many times, death. There are usually no refrigerators to cool the water. If they have a refrigerator, then their electric bill becomes larger and taxes the level of income needed for other things.
So many children lose their parents this way.
2nd way. A family has 3 children, the father makes maybe 600,000 to 1,000,000 rupiah ($60 to $120) per month. Monthly cost: food will cost about $15 per person, school fees $7 to $10 per child per month, school uniforms/books/workbooks, pencils, other school supplies, play clothes, shoes for play and going somewhere, electricity, gas for cooking, rent and …….. So if you have a boy that is 10 or older you ask him to leave the home as they cannot afford to feed/clothe/or send them to school.
3rd way. A family is with the same story, but this family compels all children 6, 7, or 8 years old or older to go to the streets and beg for money. They will have to bring home at least 10,000 to 50,000 rupiah per month ($1 to $5) per month. If they do not do this, depending upon the rules of the house, they may be hung upside down from a beam in the house for a day or two, hair cut off, beaten, hands or feet put in very hot water, so the child ends up leaving the dysfunctional living standards.

What happens to a Street Child?
Simply, nothing good happens. When both parents die, no relatives to take them in, no friends of the family will take them in, the only way for them to survive to a point, is to go to the streets.
So now they are on the street which includes children 5 years and older. If they do not starve to death and live through a year, they will probably live to be an adult, if they do not die of an illness. But up to 12% of children die before age 15 years of age.
Very few children will survive on their own, whether there is one child or two or three siblings, but some do. Most of the children are taken in by a "Boss." this boss will may give them a place with a roof over their head. Most of them may get one meal a day provided by that boss. But they have to beg and steal for the boss. They will be given enough money to purchase one set of clothes, maybe two sets.
When a boy reaches 8 to 10 years old they are prime targets for pedophiles. Many of them have their lives totally ruined for the rest of their lives during this age.
When a girl reaches 8 to 10 years old, they are prime targets for prostitution. They train them young for men to have two or three of them at a time. Approximately 33% of these girls will die before age 15.
Any child under the age of 12, are prime targets for the slave trade market. Street Children will not be missed by anyone. They are sold in the host country or taken to foreign counters for sex slaves, household slaves, or other types such as in mines of different types.
Those that make it through to age twelve are usually hard core street kids and it is almost too hard to acclimate them back into a loving home. So we will work very hard with the support you send us, to seek out all those up to any age but most will be under the age of 10 years old.
