About Street Children
Someone's Child
A child is a child no matter where in the world they are. When you go into any neighborhood that is in a city, town, village, hamlet, burro, or a subdivision, you typically will find children. These children walk, run, play, throw things, play with toys, play with their friends and acquaintances, ..... they are children.
A Street Child is a typical child until ..... a transformation takes place and you will not see them smiling, laughing, playing, or jumping with other children very much. Their life's purpose has ended. They search each day for the necessities of life ..... good water .... and food, good or bad.
Read the Statistics for India and Indonesia and they are eye opening. Do an internet search for India or Indonesia and the true stories will effect you.
A Street Child is more than a run-away child in the USA. In this section you will read about some of these children. We will look at their situations and some of you will wonder why they are different than your child, your nephew or niece, your cousin, or the friends you had when you were a child.
Joe went to a children's home on the island of Nias in March 2005, and one in India in March of 2010. In both of these the children were just being kids. They did all the laughing, singing, enjoying their childhood that most of us did as a child. Then he walked the streets, sat down at sidewalk tables and watched the children. They were totally different in almost every way.
A Street Child does not have school friends because they do not go to school. A Street Child does not have a close friend because they search out a place to sleep which can be anywhere, where they feel safe enough to sleep. A street child does not meet-up with a cousin, or as years go by, siblings, for their siblings will have gone their own way to survive.
Because you have read this far, you have something within you that is now beginning to understand the emptiness that a street kid has. A child without someone to love them.
When a child loses their parent or parents in SE Asia, something happens within them that doctor's would take hours to explain. No one, not your or any friend, has previously thought of why is C4KII wanting me to help a child in SE Asia. Why not help a child in the USA? They need help.
Children that run away from home in the USA have their problems that need to be addressed. Hopefully someone would see something happening and see out help. Or Human Services with any local government can be called and they will come and evaluate the home and the child.
In India and Indonesia, there is no Human Services department that is funded. So that is why you need to become a Guardian Angel for one or more children.
When you were a child, did you ever say "I love you" to either or both of your parents. These children have not said those three words to anyone or heard them told to themselves by someone from the day they became a Street Child. This is heart breaking? Do an internet image search for "India Street Children" or "Indonesian Street Children." You will not see one smiling face but you will see hundreds, maybe thousands of hurt, suffering, hunger, despair, non-trusting, and so many more adjectives. If you look into their eyes, you made need some Kleenex available.
Now you are beginning to understand the plight of SE Asia Street Children. They need an Angel, some will call a Hero, and send support to Reach One - Save One. Once a child is on the streets, beginning as young as 5 years, and they have been on the streets 2 or 3 years, they may have a hard to readjusting to living with love in their life. That is very sad to think about, but is very, very true. But if you do not get involved and we are unable to Reach One-Save One, after 3 or 4 years it is very hard for them to trust and respect anyone.
