Check out the mission stories of my first few trips to the Mentawai Islands.

Haiti is approximately the size of the state of Maryland, USA. The population in 2008 was estimated to approximately 9,400,000. Most of the population is around the capital Port-au-Prince.

Haiti shares a large island with the Dominican Republic. Haiti is the poorest nation in the Western hemisphere. The average income for a family is approximately $500 per year.

The buildings are constructed of cheap wood, some from trash, and the concrete buildings have not building codes and are built without metal rebar. So when the 7.0 earthquake hit on January 12, 2010, it was catastrophic and highly devastating to most building in the Port-au-Prince metro area.

As of January 17, 2010, estimates of over 100,000 are expected dead with an unnumbered amount of those with cuts, serious abrasions, broken arms and legs, and life threatening medical problems that may happen in the days to come.

Before the earthquake, there was an unnumbered amount of babies found alive without birth certificates along with an unnumbered number of those parents who died and left children to wonder in the streets. Now will be added another unnumbered of street children without parents living on the streets, if they are strong enough to stay alive. Most likely the very young will not have much of a chance without someone searching out these children a children's home that actually looks for them.

The children homes that are overseen by C4KII look for street children in need when room at the home is available. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT TO MAKE THIS POSSIBLE. Without your support a child will be on the streets that could have a new parent loving and taking care of them.

We are not going in for the initial health and life support as we are not set up for life and death circumstances. Without the expertise in dealing with life and death decisions, we would be in the way of the others. They will need continual life needs for months and years because of the devastation. We are now making the preparations to meet this needs based upon your support for the long term outreach. We need your support to start now. Paying cash as we go is a necessity. It may be a few months before we begin finding land where to start.

Join others and choose the Cikal home that you want your support to go to. If you choose to help those in Haiti, contact us for the form to note all about your support for your records and ours. If you want to split your support between two homes, you can also do that.

Haiti is not a month or two project. It is a long term commitment from us and from you to make a difference in helping these children. We will have big projects and smaller projects. With land and buildings as the major projects, we need large support to enable us to even begin.

Then we have the smaller projects of bed, tables, eating and cooking house ware, chairs, tables and so much more. As the items are identified, it will take more and more of you to make this happen. We may try to use a tent complex system if others believe this will work. Whatever the method, we need your support to start now.

When we obtain enough support to start, we will be asking for construction workers and supervisors to help in the process.
