Cikal Hope for Children in Indonesia is implementing a new system for meeting the needs of the children in their area. After 3 years of having a centralized, one home, orphanage type system, we have found that the cost for this in Indonesia is more that the support will allow per child or collectively. During the annual visit to Cikal (pronounced Chikal), the CHfC board of directors met and with the guidance of Joseph Burke, decided to change the methods used.

Cikal is now going to operate similar to a Foster Home method of providing the support to them. This will allow the children to stay within a home environment with Cikal supervision and also with the help of family and friends.

Indonesian culture is different than ours here in the USA and most other places. When one or both parents die, others will help out if at all possible. Most of the time when most parents die, the children are absorbed by a family/relative but this usually creates a hardship in the blended family. About 95% of the people live at lower than poverty levels set by governments. So when even one child goes into an established family, it even burdens that family even more and it can cause and usually does, financial and relationship problems.

Without an added source of support (income) each person has to do without a little more and a lot of times that is in the amount of food. Without good meals, then there is more health problems and all have to endure what comes their way. Unless it is life threatening, and even sometimes not even then, they will go to get medical attention if their is any close enough to go to.

So on May 10, 2010, the Board of Directors decided to begin a pilot program of having the child or children stay within what they are in. CHfC will not be going onto the streets at this time to search out and take in street children, as such. CHfC will receive a set amount of support each month for each child and depending upon the exchange rate, will depend upon how much they will have in rupee to spend for their needs.

On May 11th Angela told me of three children that no parents at home. The father passed away about 2 years previous and the mother abandoned the children and went to Malaysia to work. She sends no money to and for the children. An aunt in Jakarta found out and she sends a small amount of money to go for food and to keep them in school. This took place in late November or early December. Joe had asked Angela and Cici (pronounced Chichi) to meet with them and get all the information they could and so they met with them and obtained a lot of what we need. That afternoon I joined them and met the children.

In March 2010 Joe was introduced to these children who were abandoned by their mother just at the end of November 2009. The father had passed away 2 years prior to her leaving the children to work in Malaysia.

There are three children, two boys 11 and 14 and one girl age 17. They are well mannered with the girl taking over the mother position very well, different than the typical care free teenager when mom was at home having teenage fun. The house was clean, neat, beds made, and the yard looked very nice as seen in the above pictures. Joe had Angela ask if they had any needs right now and they indicated that they were very low on personal items, such as toothpaste, soap, hygene items and some food.

For the past 5.5 months they have had to beg for money for food and personal items, food, school books and work books. With the money from their aunt, they were surviving. Joe decided to begin the new foster program starting on the 15th of May 2010. So as of that date, Compassion 4 Kids International has 3 new children to take support through your gifts.

After their time with the children, Joe and Angela walked back to the Cikal house. As they were walking Angela told Joe that with this new program, she could identify many, many children in the same need. Joe asked what many meant and she said hundreds.

Only $50 per month will support a child in a foster home. Do you think you can spare $1.66 per day and help support a child? A soft drink or cup of coffee at your favorite fast food or restaurant costs more than that. It is simple to support a child. Just go to our Contact Us page and it has all the information that you need.

Go to our next page called Cikal Hope for Children and see a few pictures of the children we now have and information as to what CHfC would like to use the "Cikal" house for. Even though they are starting the Foster Home type system for providing support for the needs of the children, CHfC wants to keep the Cikal house open for the children to come, have fun, study, taught Bible truths, and so much more.

You will be helping many children over the years to come. Don't hesitate too long for their needs are NOW and now is a great time to start finding out how you can help.
